Biography

Chuck passed away suddenly on July 17, 2023 peacefully in the comfort of his own home. He was born in Toronto, Ontario on August 13, 1951 and was the son of his late parents Robert and Margaret Caswell (nee Burleigh).

Chuck was a sports guy! He loved everything hockey, he played six times a week through his twenties and thirties, and even played in Russia and Finland. He knew all the stats, all the players, who drafted who, and who traded who. He also followed golf, football, tennis, baseball… But then he got married and had children and his priorities shifted. He gave his life to the Lord in the early 80’s so serving the Lord and his family became his focus. He worked in the hair industry for most of his life and built relationships with his customers who became fast friends. He was fun loving, outgoing, friendly, and caring to everyone he met. He was full of dad jokes and had a wicked unique sense of humor.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly forty years, Katie (nee Lavigne). He was father to daughter Jennifer (Jay) and his son Mackenzie (Kristin). Extremely proud Grandfather of Sierra “Dolly” and William “Billy”. He was “big” brother to Debi Bruce-Moore (Paul) and was predeceased by his youngest sister Nancy Bennett (Chuck). He sadly leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that he considered family. Peter Bowyer and his entire family have been an important part of Chuck and his family’s life for our entire lives. We have been together every holiday, holy day, happy day and sad day. They have expanded our understanding of the word family and we thank them for their continued support.

We will be celebrating Chuck’s life at Halifax Christian Church (51 Farnham Gate Rd) in Halifax on August 13th, 2023 at 2:00 PM. This would have been his 72nd birthday with us, but as he is celebrating his 1st Heavenly birthday, in true Chuckie style, we felt it would be fitting to invite everyone who would like to bring or send birthday cards in lieu of flowers or sympathy cards, as he would have wanted us to celebrate with joy and well wishes rather than condolences.
